The ZAPPER

 

instructions assume you have set up the remote correctly. ie on the one I supply that device code 027 is used.

A 20mm x 10mm device that weighs 0.3gm and runs on one lipo cell that can be programmed by a T.V. Infra Red remote to alter the power to a brushed motor in steps of 0.5seconds and will record parameters for a flight of over 1 minute.

Add to that the ability to remotely abort the motor run before the aircraft is damaged.

Example of programming sequence:

all button presses are short duration unless specified otherwise.

The following keypresses will build to high power for take off followed by reduced power for cruise ending by reducing power to off.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8(held down for 5secs) 7 6 5 4(held down for 10secs) 3 3 3 3 2 2 2 1 1 1 1 0(the 0 character terminates a recording)

 

The keypresses above will build to a power level of 8 over 3.5 seconds then maintain 8 for 5 seconds then reduce power to 4 and hold for 10 seconds finishing off by reducing power gently to zero over 5.5 seconds.

 

To play back a pre recorded sequence press 9 on the remote.

To stop a sequence part way through press the red power button on the remote.

 

T.V. Remote button functions:

 

1 thru 8 are power level settings

9 plays the current memorised settings

0 (marked 10/0) on the remote I supply terminates a recorded sequence

power will stop a playback and rewind back to the start

 

It is possible to edit the start of an existing recording by pressing the 1 thru 8 buttons.

This is helpful if the flight is o.k. but you need to tweek the take off settings.

i.e

After landing

Press red power button (rewinds to start of recording)

press 1,1,1,2,2,2,2,3,3,3,3,3,4,4,4,4,4,4,4,4,4, (The start of the recording has now been altered to reflect the button presses above but we are part way into the recording so)

Press red power button (rewinds to start of recording)

Now 9 will play the altered recording.

INSTALLATION

 

IMPORTANT

The ZAPPER will continue to draw current from the lipo when not in use if it is left connected so it is imperative that some means of isolation is employed.

This can be as simple as disconnecting the lipo using its connector.

 

Infra Red can pass quite easily through the tissue on most models it will also penetrate some foams quite well.

However burying The ZAPPER deep in a model may detrimentally affect range for the emergency stop feature.

 

CONNECTIONS

 

The positive connection pad is shared with the motor positive

The PCB has a plain smooth back and can be glued or stuck with double sided tape to secure in position inside the model.
